This study is not to search for the political stream or context in the middle of Goryeo. Its purpose is to discover how the people in those days comprehended time which was the standard of everyday affair and applied it to everyday life.
In the chapter 1, the Two Stream of the Comprehension of Time, I try to examine the reason why Goryeo dynasty endeavored to make Goryeo calendar notwithstanding its reception of Chinese calendar and the feature of its effort. I also observe that the people in those days comprehended time by the standard of the age of the moon. In the chapter 2, the Expression of Time by the Intellectuals and the Weather, I aim to demonstrate that the important subdivisions of the seasons as Hansik(the 105th day after the winter solstice), Jungyang(the ninth day of the ninth lunar month), and Dano(the fifth day of the fifth lunar month) were put on record by the analysis of the Dongguk-isanggukjip(Collected Works of Minister Yi Gyubo). Also, I have shown that the people in Goryeo had their own standard to appreciate season as expressed in their poetry and prose. In the chapter 3, the Feature and Meaning of the Comprehension of Time, I have attempted to describe that as the intellectuals cited Chinese poetry and prose widely, Chinese customs and weather were accepted.
As remarked above, Goryeo dynasty connected computation of time with the government ordinance organically and applied it to the rule of king and the local control. In the late 12th and early 13th centuries, the intellectuals like Yi Gyubo recorded about everyday customs and weather using the calendar day which the dynasty distributed. It shows that the comprehension of time of the Middle Ages and everyday life through it were regularized to arrange and develop at that times.
