퍼스 기호이론의 무용기호학적 적용 연구 = Study on the Dance-Semiotic Application of Peirce`s Theory of Signs

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As semiotic theories are deemed to be the most useful methodology to interpret the meaning of dance by typifying and signifying it, this study uses Peirce`s theory of signs. While symbolism Saussure could examine logic structures of language closely and Greimas` semiotic theory is suitable for a epic close examination and dismantlement, Peirce`s theory is thought to be useful for more scientific judgment breaking up the structure of meaning and communication into the sign system as good as dance. As a result, Peirce`s triadic principle of signs has brought about infinite interpretations owing to the action of dance signs and the categories of dance signsenable us to explore the semiotic area of dance and the possibility of various signs including non-verbal messages except linguistic signs. In other words, the semiotic area of dance including kinesics of non-verbal communication can be divided into the semiology of meaning and the semiology of communication, and while the former examines the signification system of dance movement and its interpretations closely, the latter decodes the codes of dance movement and interchanged messages. In order to go beyond the existing impressionistic criticism in interpreting the beauty of dance and making aesthetic judgments, more scientific judgment and methodology are needed. Even though it examines only the inessential phenomena closely, it is certain that semiology is useful scholarship as the methodology for further developments.
