〈만복사저포기〉에 나타난 이별 과정과 그 의미

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논의는 고전소설 〈만복사저포기〉에 나타난 이별 과정을 살펴보고 그 의미를 찾고자 하였다. 먼저 만남과 이별의 과정을 통해 본 양생의 행위 변화를 살펴보았다. 이는 만남 과정을 통한 양생의 행위 변화를 두 단계, 이별 과정을 통한 양생의 행위 변화를 네 단계, 총 여섯 단계로 나눠 살펴보았다. 첫째, 양생이 여인과의 만남을 원하면서 저승인(여귀)을 불러들인 단계이다. 이는 양생이 이승에 머문 단계이다. 둘째, 양생이 여인을 저승인(여귀)이라고 추정하면서 관찰하는 단계이다. 이는 양생이 이승에서 저승으로 진입한 단계이다. 셋째, 양생이 여인이 저승인(여귀)임을 알고 나서 다른 저승인들(여귀들)과도 어우러진 단계이다. 이는 양생이 저승에서 머문 단계이다. 넷째, 양생이 저승인(여귀)과 이승인(여인의 부모님)의 가교역할을 한 단계이다. 이는 양생이 저승에서 이승으로 돌아온 단계이다. 다섯째, 양생이 여귀를 또 다른 세계에서 다른 존재(남자)로 재탄생하게 한 단계이다. 이는 양생이 이승을 정리하는 단계이다. 여섯째, 양생이 자신 또한 다른 존재(약초 캐는 사람)로 재탄생 한 단계이다. 이는 양생이 이승과 저승 이외의 신선계로 진입한 단계이다. 이를 통해 양생이 순차적으로 변화한 인물이라고 보며 새로운 관점을 제시하였다.
그뿐만 아니라 원(願)과 통(痛)을 통해 본 만남과 이별의 의미를 살펴보았다. 여기서 먼저 만남 과정에서 드러난 양생의 내면을 살펴보았는데, 양생이 원(願)했다는 것은 결합욕망과 지속욕망이 있던 것이며 그 이면에는 지속불안이 존재했다는 것이다. 다음은 이별 과정에서 드러난 양생의 내면을 살펴보았는데, 양생이 통(痛)을 느꼈다는 것은 배필에 대해 간절했던 원(願)에 대한 상실과 여인의 고통과 동일시했던 것이다. 다시 말해서 〈만복사저포기〉에 나타난 만남은 원(願), 이별은 통(痛)이라고 보며 새로운 관점을 제시하였다.
정리해 보면, 운명적으로 주어진 결핍된 환경에 순응할 수밖에 없었던 양생과 전쟁 중에도 시대가 요구하는 정신적 가치에 따라 자신의 생명을 훼손할 수밖에 없었던 여인은 만남과 이별 과정에서 억눌렸던 내면을 드러내면서 사그라졌던 생명력(生命力)을 지펴 다시 태어날 수 있었던 것이다. 이는 양생과 여인이 보통 대치된 감정에서 벌어지는 이별 상황에서 오히려 서로의 아픔을 이해하며 하나의 생명체인 듯 움직여서 각자 재탄생할 수 있었다는 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This discussion is to look for the meaning at the separation process shown in the classic novel 〈Manboksajeopogi〉. First, I looked at the Yangsaeng’s changes in behavior seen over the course of the meeting and separation. And I looked at the Yangsaeng’s changes in behavior by dividing by a total of six steps which is the two-step changes through the meeting process and his four-step changes through the separation process. The first is the step summoning a underworld person(yeogwi) while he wanted to meet with women. This step is that Yangsaeng had bveen stayed in this world. The second is the step which observe the woman while Yangsaeng estimates her as the underworld person(yeogwi). This step is that Yangsaeng moved in the underworld from this world. Third, Yangsaeng also mingled in the other underworld person(yeogwi) after he know that the woman is a underworld person(yeogwi). This step is that Yangsaeng stayed in the underworld. Fourth, it is a step that Yangsaeng serve as a bridge between a underworld person(yeogwi) and this world person(her parents). This step is that Yangsaeng return to this world from a underworld. Fifth, Yangsaeng made her rebirth as the other beings(men) from another world. This step is that Yangsaeng clean up this world. Fifth, Yangsaeng made himself rebirth as the other beings(herb digger). This step is that Yangsaeng entered the mystical world other than this world and the underworld. In other words, in this discussion, I suggested new perspective that Yangsaeng is the person who changed sequentially.
In addition, I examined the meaning of the meeting and separation with the desire (願) and suffering(痛). Here first, I saw at the inner surface of the Yangsaeng shown in meeting process, what did he want is to won a combined desire and persistent desire and he had continued unrest in the hidden side. Then, I saw at the inner surface of the Yangsaeng shown in separation process, what he felt suffering(痛) is that he have identified the loss of desire(願) - desperately wanted for spouse - and her pain. That is to say, the meeting appeared in 〈Manboksajeopogi〉 has proposed a new perspective by meeting is desire(願) and separation is suffering(痛). To sum up, Yangsaeng who were forced to conform to a given deficiency environmental fate and the woman who undermine her own life according to the spiritual values that require time during the war, are to be born by starting a vitality(生命力) that was withdrawn and revealing the repressed inner side in meeting and separation process. It could be reborn as Yangsaeng and the woman rather, understanding the pain of another in the normal circumstances emotional separation usually takes place in confrontation, and seems to be one life and move one.
