공동체와 공동체 아카이브에 대한 고찰 = Communities and community archives

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article will examine the community archive movement, exploring its roots, its variety and the present developments. It will identify limitations of archival principles in managing community records, particularly on the many gaps and insufficiencies for dealing with historically marginalized groups in the contemporary archival infrastructure. Introducing paradigm shifts in the understanding of the role of archives, the author examines new challenges and opportunities of archival community on community archives.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

‘공동체’, ‘아카이브’, ‘기억 공동체’, ‘사회적 기억’, ‘문화적 증거’ 등은 지난 10년간 북미 기록학계에서 가장 많이 언급된 단어들이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 용어들에 대한 정확한 정의는 다소 모호한 점이 없지는 않지만, 이 용어들이 유럽과 북미가 중심이 된 국제 기록학의 새로운 흐름을 표현하고 있다는 점에서 그 중요성이 있다. 다시 말해 그것들은 기록학의 연구 대상, 이론과 방법론, 의미와 가치, 나아가 인식론에 이르기까지 기록 관리와 연구의 핵심적인 문제들을 둘러싼 새로운 논의들을 함축하고 있는 것이다. 이러한 논의는 기록과 기록 관리의 본질에 대한 근본적인 문제 제기를 하였고, 그 점에서 기록학계에 큰 전환점을 가져왔다고 할 수 있다. 본고는 이러한 공동체와 공동체 아카이브에 대한 학문적 논의와 성립 배경에 대해 소개하며, 그 사회적 함의에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 첫째, 공동체 아카이브의 필요성과 중요성에 대해 살펴보면서, 기존의 기록관리 방법론이 공동체 기록을 관리하는데 가지는 한계와 문제점을 지적했다. 둘째, 공동체의 정의와 특징에 대해 고찰하고 기록 관리의 대상이 되는 기록공동체의 범주와 특징에 대해 밝혔다. 셋째, 공동체 아카이브의 사회적 의미와 한국 사회에서의 함의에 대해 간략하게 언급하였다.
