영미 스포츠철학과 스포츠윤리학의 동향 = Trends and issues: The philosophy and ethics of sport in North America and the United Kingdom

This work examined trends and issues in the sport philosophy of North America and the United Kingdom, and briefly traced its history. One of the subdisciplines of kinesiology is the philosophy of sport, the methodology and subject matter of which is philosophical reasoning and sport. The PSSS was founded in 1972 and the JPS started to be published in 1974. Added to this, the academic identity of the sport philosophy was obtained through a metaphysical approach to conceptions concerning sport throughout the 1960s to 1970s. After the mid of 1970s, an ethical approach to sport has been in earnest taken in accordance with an ontological approach. Moreover, an ethical decision on the various problematic situations such as gene doping needs to be made. The ethics of sport has a theoretical and practical responsibility for suggesting moral norms to a sporting community. Virtue ethics as one of the normative ethics, the main conceptions of which are virtue and good, presents a different point of view from deontology and teleology in the realm of the ethics of sport. To explore the trends and issues in the philosophy and ethics of sport may be helpful in setting up the future direction of the Korean Philosophic Society for Sport and Dance.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 영미 스포츠철학과 스포츠윤리학의 형성과 발전에 대한 역사를 고찰하고 연구의 동향을 살피는 데 그 목적이 있다. 1960년대 체육의 학문화 운동으로 인해 태동한 체육학/스포츠학의 분과학인 스포츠철학은 모학문의 학적 방법을 기반으로 스포츠와 그와 관련된 현상을 연구대상으로 삼고 있다. 영미 스포츠철학은 1960년대와 1970년대를 거치면서 스포츠에 대한 개념규정에 관한 형이상학적 접근을 통해 학문으로서의 정체성을 확립해 나갔으며, 1972년 스포츠철학회(PSSS)의 창립과 1974년 스포츠철학학회지(JPS) 간행을 통해 학문 성립을 위한 외형적 토대를 갖추었다. 1970년대 중후반 이후 스포츠철학은 기존의 존재론적 탐구와 함께 윤리학적 논의를 본격적으로 진행하였으며, 도덕 판단을 요구하는 다양한 스포츠 상황의 발생으로 인해 연구 대상의 범위를 넓혀가고 있다. 스포츠윤리학은 도덕 판단의 근거로서 역할을 하는 준거/규범을 제시하는 막중한 책무를 지니고 있으며, 덕을 도덕 판단의 근거로 제시하고 있는 덕 윤리는 스포츠윤리학에 새로운 시각을 제공해주고 있다. 영미 스포츠철학과 스포츠윤리학의 동향을 살펴봄으로써 스포츠철학의 흐름을 파악하고 한국체육철학회의 방향을 설정할 수 있을 것이다.
