유교자본주의론과 현대 경영철학의 재조명

국문 초록 (Abstract)

막스베버를 위시한 근대 서양학자들은 아시아 지역의 경제 저개발 원인을 이 지역의 유교 문화적 특성으로서 설명하였으며, 이 견해는 오랫동안 학계의 정설처럼 받아들여져 왔다. 그러나 1970~1980년대 아시아 국가들 그 중에서도 유교문화권에 속하는 국가들의 비약적인 경제발전을 이루게 되면서, 이들 국가들의 유교적 문화의 특성을 경제발전의 동인으로 설명을 하는 학자들에 의해 유교자본주의론이 제기되었다. 이후 아시아 지역의 위기로 인하여 동아시아 국가의 경제발전의 원동력으로 여겨지던 유교적 가치와 유교적 문화가 비판을 받기도 하였다. 유교자본주의론에서 유교 문화적 특징으로 교육의 중시, 정부와 기업과의 긴밀한 관계, 가족주의, 도덕 윤리적 사회관계, 근면, 저축, 사회적 신뢰, 강한 문화적 동질감 등을 들고 있다. 유가의 仁의 愛人思想은 인간상호 간에 존중을 통한 협동과 화합을 필요로 하게 된다. 따라서 기업을 포함한 현대 사회조직의 성립근거로서 愛人思想의 협동과 화합은 오늘날 기업경영의 핵심가치라 할 수 있다. 유가의 경영사상에 담긴 가치철학과 세계관은 현대 기업경영에서 강조되는 경영윤리, 사회적 책임, 환경경영 등에 대하여 이념적 가치를 제공할 수 있다. 따라서 윤리적 가치에 기반을 두고 있는 儒家思想을 통하여 현대 자본주의적 경영이념과 경영철학에 대한 재조명은 유교적 가치의 현대 경영원리의 정착가능성이라는 의미에서 중요한 가치를 가질 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Max Weber's influential works-for example, "The protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism", which explained protestantism as an important cause for the rise of Capitalism, contended that no capitalistic development would ever take place in China and other Confucian countries in East Asia. In contrast to the Western Preconceptions as Max Weber studied the confucian society, specially China and concluded there was no transformational power, Capitalism can be also developed in East Asian countries with the support of Confucian ethics. Confucian capitalists argue that Confucianism has taken a critical role of east Asian successful economic growth. It is the main point of what people call the capacity of Confucian capitalism. Asian Values, of which clear definition is not yet available, is generally conceived as a combination of a strong state and political authority, Confucian familism, education and self cultivation, frugality and thrift, hard working ethic and labor discipline, social harmony and group-responsibility-in short, as form of social civility which shows distinctive features of Confucianism. In this regard, after the through review on the Confucian writings and critics, this article provides a practical outlook of the role of the Confucian management thought and an outlook on the world of Confucianism which are the good virtue of Confucianism and familism of Confucianism in a critical review of modern management philosophy.
