해석학의 상담학적 의의 - 가다머의 지평융합 개념을 중심으로 - = The Meaning of Hermeneutics in the Counseling Studies - With a focus on Gadamer's Concept of Fusion of Horizon -

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The first purpose of this study is to look into the meaning of Horizont Verschmelzung (the fusion of horizon), the principal concept of Gadamer’s Philosophical Hermeneutics. The second purpose is to understand what issues are considered in the methodologies of positivistic counseling studies if the fusion of horizon can be the basis of the counseling studies, and whether hermeneutics could be an alternative approach.
When the fusion of horizon is used in the context of counseling, the client can reflect on the distorted, problematic situation through a dialogue, which is called a hermeneutic cyclic process. This process eventually leads the client to discover a new self. In this respect, a hermeneutic approach based on the fusion of horizon could be useful in counseling studies. Second, hermeneutic counseling studies does not objectify the client to understand the causal relationship of his or her certain behavior. It rather interprets the client’s behavior by situating it in a vivid, specific context of his or her life, thus, a further in-depth counseling research is possible. It suggests the limitation of positivistic approach and the applicability of hermeneutic approach in counseling studies.
In conclusion, the fusion of horizon is useful to explain the process of a client’s profound understanding of self through a dialectic, hermeneutic cycle, which occurs through the relationship of his or her preconceptions and the impact of his or her whole, surrounding life.
