알튀세르와 버틀러, 발리바르－주체화 양식의 논점과 일반화 = Beyond Interpellation: From Althusser to Balibar via Butler

국문 초록 (Abstract)

버틀러는 알튀세르의 호명이론이 ``죄의식의 주체`` 또는 ``법을 향한 주체``를 가정하고 있다고 비판한다. 그녀는 나아가 알튀세 르의 호명 테제의 핵심이 종교적 주체화 양식이라고 주장한다. 이 논문 은 이러한 버틀러의 비판에 답하면서 알튀세르의 이론을 버틀러의 해 석과는 다른 방식으로 이해할 가능성을 탐색해 보고자 한다. 특히 호명 테제에 제시된 돌아섬이라는 은유를 근본적 수동성의 관점에서 재해석 하고, 호명 이론 안에 공존하는 다양한 기표들의 이론(언어 및 행동·제스처 모델)의 이론적 가능성에 주목하고자 한다. 이 논문은 또한 발 리바르의 주체화양식과 알튀세르 이데올로기 이론의 비교를 통해 알튀 세르 이데올로기 이론의 약점과 가능성을 탐색하고자 한다. 이 비교를 통해 이 논문은 알튀세르 이데올로기 이론의 핵심적인 문제는 종교적 주체성의 유무 여부가 아니라 유적·집합적 정체성들의 형성 및 공존 을 적합하게 설명하지 못한다는 데 있다는 것을 보이고, 알튀세르 호명이론에 내재하는 다양한 기표들의 이론으로 유적·집합적 정체성 및 다 양한 정체성들의 형성 및 공존을 설명할 가능성을 탐색해 보고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Althusser accounts for the formation of the subject in terms of the function of ideology, and thereby posits it as the effect of the structure. The core of this project is to elaborate an underlying mechanism of ideology independently of the causality of the mode of production while admitting the materiality of ideology. The mechanism Althusser suggests is ``interpellation``: ideology interpellates individuals as subjects. Butler criticizes Althusser`s notion of subject as ``subject of guilt`` or ``subject towards the law``. She also argues that it surreptitiously presupposes a religious paradigm. In response to this criticism, this paper argues that Althusserian interpellation is not reducible to a religious model of ideology; rather it consists of various models of identification based upon different signifiers such as language, gestures, behaviors, etc., thus having the theoretical potential to think the complex articulation of different identities in the subjects. So, against Butler, this paper attempts to translate the metaphor of ``hailing and turning back`` in terms of primary passivity: the turning around of subject is the act of primary dependence, not an active religious turning. This papers also argues that the real problem of Althusser`s theory of ideology lies in its inability to account for anthropological and collective identities such as class/sexual/national identities (and their coexistence in an individual), which derives from the fact that Althusser addresses the problem of subjectivity mainly in terms of individuality/inner voice. So, this paper explores whether Althusser`s theory has the potential to deals with the formation of these identities particularly focusing on the fact that it contains the various models of identification based upon various signifiers. In the process, this paper will compare Althusser`s theory of ideology with Balibar`s concept of subjectivation, which aims to overcome the weakness of Althusser`s interpellation.
