기혼여성의 취업과 자녀수 간의 상관관계에 대한 실증분석 = A Study on Married Women`s Participation in Economic Activity and Number of Children

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzes correlation between married women``s participation in economic activity and number of children with SEM bivariate probit (Simultaneous Equation Model bivariate probit) model, using the 17th Korean Labor & Income Panel Study (KLIPS, 2014). According to the results of estimation, the number of babies that the married women gave birth to decreased due to their participation in economic activity. And giving birth to babies acted as a limiting factor in the married women``s economic activity. Reversely, it was shown that the number of children had a negative effect on women``s economic activity. So, it was shown that the number of children was a cause for an decrease of married women``s labor supply. It is insisted that there is reciprocal or bi-directional substitute correlation between the married women``s participation in economic activity and the number of children as shown above. Therefore, it is implied that countermeasures against low birthrate through labor market are required, which can change a substitute relationship between the married women``s participation in economic activity and the number of children to a complementary relationship.
