미혼모의 사회적 관계망이 자아존중감에 미치는 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 미혼모의 사회적 관계망의 기능적 특성이 미혼모의 자아존중감에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였으며, 특히 기존 연구에서 배제되어 있던 사회적 관계망의 부정적 측면인 사회적 갈등에 주목함으로써, 연구의 폭을 넓히고자 시도하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 전국 미혼모 시설 8곳 중 6곳에 거주하고 있는 미혼모들 205명을 대상으로, 설문조사를 실시한 후 다중회귀분석방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과 미혼모들이 지각하는 사회적 지지의 수준이 높을수록 자아존중감이 높게 나타<br/>
났으며, 사회적 갈등이 높을수록 자아존중감은 낮게 나타났다. 특히 미혼모들이 지각하는 사회적 갈등은 사회적 지지보다 낮은 수준이기는 하지만, 자아존중감에 미치는 영향력은 사회적 지지와 비슷한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 사회적 관계망의 부정적 기능에 대한 인식은 시설내 미혼모에게 개입하는데 있어 새로운 방향을 제시해 준다. 즉, 지금까지 관심을 가져왔던 사회적 지지체계에 대한 개입 외에, 갈등의 원천이 될 수 있는 관계망과의 관계를 제거하고 새로운 대안을 찾거나 개선하는 방향으로 개입의 방향을 전환할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In Korea, since the systematic efforts to help unmarried mothers are rather limited, the unmarried mother's social relationship is expected to play a critical role in the adjustment of unmarried mothers after the birth of a baby.<br/>
The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of social relationship on unmarried mother's self-esteem. Especially, this study focused a negative aspect of social relationship, social conflict, which has been ignored by the previous researches.<br/>
For this study, survey method was employed. The respondents of the<br/>
questionnaire were 205 unmarried mothers staying at six out of eight institutions for unmarried mothers available in Korea. The multiple regression and other descriptive statistical methods were conducted and the results of analysis are as follows.<br/>
First, the higher the level of perceived social support was, the higher the level of self-esteem of unmarried mothers was.<br/>
Second, the higher the level of perceived social conflict was, the lower the level of self-esteem of unmarried mothers was.<br/>
Third, even though the level of perceived social conflict was much lower than the perceived social support, the effect of social conflict on unmarried mothers' self-esteem was as powerful as the social support. This means that the effect of social conflict also can be very important.<br/>
These findings suggest a new direction for intervention for unmarried mothers.<br/>
Until now, the major target of intervention in social relationship was to strengthen existing social support or establish new social support system. Now, in addition to augmenting social support, we should pay attention to removal of social conflict,<br/>
since it has significantly powerful effect on the adjustment of unmarried mothers.
