한국 아동 발달에 대한 탐색적 연구 = An Exploratory Study on Korean Children`s development -the Effects of Socioeconomic Factors and Social Capital-

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 2009년 `한국아동청소년종합실태조사` 자료를 이용한 실증적 분석을 통해 한국 아동들의 전반적인 발달 상태를 살펴보고, 그러한 발달 상태에 영향을 미치는 사회경제적 특성, 가족내 사회자본, 지역사회 사회자본의 상대적 영향력을 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과 가구소득, 부모학력, 부모효능감, 부모-자녀 의사소통개방성, 지역사회환경 및 사회적 지원이 아동발달에 중요한 영향요인임이 밝혀졌다. 특히 아동의 인지 및 언어발달에는 가구소득의 영향이 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 아동의 심리사회발달에는 부모효능감, 부모-자녀 의사소통개방성 등 가족과정(family-processes)과 관련된 가족내 사회자본의 영향이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 아동의 신체적 건강 발달에 대해서는 특히 사회적 지원과 지역사회환경과 같은 지역사회 사회자본이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 각 영향요인은 아동의 연령대에 따라 균등하게 나타나는 부분도 있는 반면, 상당히 다르게 나타나는 부분도 있었다. 가구소득의 영향을 0-8세 아동의 인지발달과 9-18세 아동의 학업성취도에는 고르게 나타나는 반면, 심리사회발달에는 9-18세 시기 아동에게만 나타나는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 부모교육수준은 아동의 고른 영양섭취에 전 연령대에서 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 부모효능감은 0-8세 어린시기에서만 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

This study examined the overall wellbeing of Korean children on three developmental areas: cognitive and language abilities, psychosocial capacity, and physical health. The study also examined the effects of family`s socioeconomic and social capital factors on children`s development. The national survey of children and youth data, which is based on a nationally represented sample of 6,923 children under the age of 18 was used in this study. The findings are as follows: First, family income affects children`s cognitive and language development even after controlling for other factors. Second, the level of family`s social capital such as parental efficacy and openness in communication between child and their parents is related to children`s psychosocial development. Lastly, social capital factors at the community level is related to children`s physical health development. The study also finds that the patterns of relationships between environmental factors and children`s development varies across different age groups.
