국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리가 살고 있는 21세기 현대 사회는 지식 기반 사회, 세계화ㆍ정보화 사회이다. 최근 우리나라는 사회 변동과 함께 빠르게 지구촌 사회, 다문화 사회로 진입하고 있다. 이제 우리는 학교, 직장, 각종 집회, 공공 장소 등 주변에서 심심찮게 외국인들을 만나고 있으며 이들과 상호작용을 하는 생활을 하고 있다.
본 연구는 이와 같은 세계화 시대에 바람직한 우리나라의 다문화 교육의 방향을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 따라서 다문화 교육에 대한 세계적인 흐름과 방법을 개관하고 우리나라의 다문화 교육에 나아갈 방향에 대해서 고찰하였다.
21세기 세계화 시대의 한국 다문화 교육은 한국적 다문화 모델을 정립하고, 전 국민과 교육공동체 모두가 함께 참여하는 시스템 속에서, 배려의 문화를 실천하는 가운데, 보다 창의적인 방향으로 전개되어야 할 것이다.
즉, 21세기 세계화 시대의 한국 다문화 교육은 교육공동체를 포함한 전 국민들의 관심과 배려, 그리고 동참 속에서 이루어져야 한다. 따라서 우리 모두는 다문화 교육 대상인 학생들에게 ‘우리’라는 동질감을 느끼게 해주고 모든 교육과정과 교육 활동에 적극적으로 참여하도록 배려해 주어야 한다.
특히 세계화 시대의 한국 다문화 교육은 초ㆍ중ㆍ고교와 대학교 등 학교와 교원 등 교육자들만의 책임과 전유물이 절대 아니라는 점을 명심하고 수행하여야 할 것이다. 진정으로 바람직한 세계화 시대의 다문화 교육은 국민 모두가 참여하고, 교육공동체 모두가 한 마음 한 뜻으로 힘을 모아 함께 나아가는 ‘동반자의 길’에서 보다 더 알찬 성과를 기대할 수 있다는 점을 유념해야 할 것이다.
