청소년의 학업스트레스와 우울 간의 관계에서 자아존중감의 종단매개효과 검증 = The Longitudinal Mediation Effects of Self-Esteem in the Influence of Academic Stress to Adolescents' Depression

The purposes of this study was to analyze longitudinal mediation effect of self-esteem in the influence of academic stress to depression. To do this, latent growth modeling was adapted to Korean Youth Panel Survey data. The results were as follows. First, academic stress, self-esteem and depression were increased significantly as time passed. Second, adolescents whose academic stress was high represented decline of self esteem. Adolescents whose self esteem was high represented decline of depression. And adolescents whose academic stress was high represented increase of depression. Third, adolescents whose growth rates of academic stress was high represented decline rates of self esteem. Adolescents whose growth rates of self esteem was high represented decline rates of depression. And adolescents whose growth rates of academic stress was high represented decline rates of depression. These results supported the longitudinal partial- mediation effects of self-esteem in the influence of academic stress to depression. Based on these results, theoretical and practical implications as well as suggestions for future research were discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 청소년의 학업스트레스가 우울에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 자아존중감의 종단적 매개효과를 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국청소년패널조사의 초등학교 4학년 패널 1차 년도부터 5차 년도까지의 자료를 다변량잠재성장모형을 적용하여, 5년간의 시간 경과에 따른 학업스트레스, 자아존중감 그리고 우울의 변화양상과 변인들 간의 관련성을 종단적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 5년 동안 청소년의 학업스트레스, 자아존중감 그리고 우울은 지속적으로 유의하게 증가하였다. 둘째, 1차 년도에 측정한 학업스트레스가 높을수록 동일한 시기의 자아존중감은 더 낮은 반면, 우울은 더 높았으며, 자아존중감이 낮을수록 우울은 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 1차 년도부터 5차 년도까지 5년간 학업스트레스가 급격하게 증가할수록 자아존중감은 더 빠르게 감소하고 우울은 더 빠르게 증가하였으며, 자아존중감이 급격하게 감소할수록 우울은 더 빠르게 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 매개효과의 유의성을 검증하기 위해 Sobel test를 실시한 결과, 자아존중감의 매개효과는 통계적으로 유의하였다. 이를 통해 청소년의 학업스트레스 변화율은 우울 변화율에 직접 영향을 미치기도 하고, 자아존중감 변화율을 매개로 하여 우울 변화율에 영향을 미치기도 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이로써 청소년의 학업스트레스가 우울에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 자아존중감의 종단적 매개효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구결과에 근거하여 청소년의 학업스트레스로 인한 우울을 감소시키기 위해서는 자아존중감을 증진시키기 위한 간접적인 노력뿐 아니라 학업스트레스를 감소시키기 위한 직접적인 개입도 필요함을 제언하였다.
