초기 청소년기에 있는 아동의 자존감 및 자기애와 대인관계 스트레스 및 사회불안 간의 관계 = Relationships between Narcissism, Self-Esteem, Interpersonal Stresses, and Social Anxiety among Children in Early Adolescence

This study examined how narcissism are related to interpersonal stresses and social anxiety with self-esteem of children in early adolescence. The participants were 254 male and female elementary school students in 5-6 grades. Results indicated that narcissistic trait was positively correlated with self-esteem, and shared approximately 36% variance. Narcissistic trait was negatively correlated to stresses with friends, and positively correlated to stresses with teachers. Among narcissism, authority and superiority were correlated to stresses with friends, and entitlement and self-admiration were correlated to stresses with teachers. Although social anxiety, like stresses with friends, was negatively correlated to narcissistic trait, narcissism could not account the variance of those variables as it was adjusted by self-esteem. It was not found anything pathologically special with children with high degree of narcissism and low self-esteem. It was discussed roles of narcissism and self-esteem with previous studies.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 초기 청소년기에 있는 아동의 자기애가 자존감과 함께 대인관계 스트레스나 사회불안과 어떻게 관계하고 있는지를 검증하였다. 연구의 참여자는 초등학교 5-6학년생 254명이었다. 연구 결과, 자기애는 자존감과 정적 상관이 있었고, 36% 가량의 변량을 공유하고 있었다. 자기애는 친구와의 스트레스와는 부적 상관이, 교사와의 스트레스와는 정적 상관이 있었다. 자기애 중에서 권위의식과 우월감이 친구와의 스트레스와 상관이, 특권의식과 자기찬미가 교사와의 스트레스와 상관이 있었다. 친구와의 스트레스는 물론 사회불안도 자기애와 부적 상관이 있었는데, 자기애에서 자존감 요소를 제거하면 그 변인의 변량을 설명할 수 없었다. 본 연구에서 자기애 성향은 강하지만 자존감이 약한 사람들에게서 대인관계 스트레스나 사회불안과 관련하여 특이사항이 발견되지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과를 자기애와 자존감의 특성과 선행연구들을 바탕으로 논의하였다.
