초기 청소년기에 있는 아동의 자기애 및 자존감과 우울 및 행복감 간의 관계 = Relationships between Narcissism, Self-Esteem, Depression, and Happiness among Children in Early Adolescence

This study was aimed to examine how narcissism are related to depression and feeling of happiness with self-esteem of children in early adolescence. The participants were 315 (161 males and 154 females) elementary school students in 5-6 grades. Results indicated that narcissistic trait was positively correlated with self-esteem, and shared approximately 33% variance. Correlational analysis revealed that narcissistic trait was positively correlated to happiness of children, whereas it was not significantly correlated to depression. As it was adjusted by self-esteem in stepwise regression analysis, entitlement, a factor of narcissism, was positively related to depression, and only authority related to happiness of children. It was not found anything pathologically special with children with high degree of narcissism and low self-esteem. It was discussed roles of narcissism and self-esteem in mental health and well-being among children in early adolescence with previous studies.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 초기 청소년기에 있는 아동의 자기애 성향이 자존감과 함께 우울이나 행복감과 어떻게 관계하고 있는지를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구의 참여자는 초등학교 5-6학년생 315명(남학생 161명, 여학생 154명)이다. 연구 결과, 자기애는 자존감과 정적 상관을 보였고, 33% 가량의 변량을 공유하였다. 상관분석에서 자기애는 행복감과 정적 상관이 있었으나 우울과는 상관이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 단계적 회귀분석을 통해 자기애에서 자존감 요소를 제거하면 자기애의 요인 중에 특권의식이 아동의 우울과 정적으로 관계하고 있었으며, 우월감만이 행복감과 정적으로 관계하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 본 연구에서는 자기애 성향은 강하지만 자존감이 약한 아동들에게서 우울이나 행복감과 관련하여 특이사항이 발견되지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과를 초기 청소년기의 정신건강과 웰빙에 대한 자기애와 자존감의 역할을 선행연구들을 바탕으로 논의하였다.
