After Japan`s occupation of Korea by force, the order of Daejonggyo, which had been persecuted in the inside of the country, sent Yun Se-bok as Daejonggyo`s preacher to Huairen(now Huanren) County in the Qing Dynasty, founding Dong-Chang School, which acted as an educational institution as well as a Daejonggyo`s church. Park Eun-sik from Hwanghae Province, who was a famous journalist and great thinker, took refugee in China in 1911, residing in Dong-Chang School, and writing books about an ancient history of Korea. There he finished writing six books of Korean history, each of which featured Dangun in Gojoseon(Old Joseon) kingdom, Dongmyeongseongwang, Myeonglimdapbu and Yeongaesomun in Goguryeo, Dae Jo-yeong in Balhae and Wanyan Aguda in the Jin Dynasty. Dangun is the founder of Daejonggyo as well as the father of Korean people. Dongmyeongseongwang, Dae Jo-yeong and Aguda are not only the heroes of Korean people but also the saints of Daejonggyo. Park Eun-sik`s writings passed down to the present except for Dongmyeongseongwangsilgi, which has been lost, hold the idea that “Les`s develop the wealth and military power of our nation and the spirit of the native Korean religion.” First of all, Daedonggodaesaron, a historical article and Myeongrimdapbujeon, a historical novel include the idea of Park`s nation`s soul. He identified Shingyo(神敎), that is, Daejonggyo as a state religion. He asserted the principle of strenuous efforts that we should cultivate real power for ourselves to cope with the cruel circumstances of the law of the jungle and proposed a nation`s solidarity as a way of strenuous efforts. It was particular that he made Dangun and Shingyo, which had originated from Dangun, the most significant principle for education and a nation`s solidarity. His historical novel Cheongaesomunjeon and Balhaetaejogeongukji shows Park Eun-sik`s idea of heroes. Through these novels, he insisted that we should strive for a nation`s awakening by emphasizing the attitude and mind toward heroes rather than one hero himself. He convinced himself that heroes` worship had do to with the rise and fall of a nation. His motive for writing a series of books was to awaken the spirit of heroes inherent in the consciousness of fellow countrymen. His dream novel Mongbaegeumtaejo says that he seemed to think that his hope of the national self-esteem and restoration of Korea`s sovereignty would be able to come true if through national education, one by one the Korean nation was to be heroes and stand together one another, as saying that the victory and defeat and the rise and fall of a nation does not lie in the number of the people but in the number of talented persons of a nation. The characteristic of Park Eun-sik`s early Diaspora writings is that his writings had been written about the heroes of the antient Korean people and the saints of Daejonggyo in the form of a novel with the religious purpose of regaining the holy land. By doing this, he made sure that his writings inspired the national spirit and religious belief into young people of fellow countrymen who would be hosts of a future nation and made them keep the hope of independence of mother country.
