Recently, the role of positive psychological capital of an organizational member in his/her performance has received serious attention from both researchers and practitioners. The previous research has, however, focused mainly on the direct effect of positive psychological capital on job attitudes and performance, not paying enough attention on the factors mediating and/or moderating in their relationship. In this study, we attempt to explore the factors performing those roles.
In this study, we attempt to find out the role an individual s affect plays in the relationship between positive psychological capital and job satisfaction and alienation, suggesting positive psychological capital cause personal positive affect. For the study, data was collected from 600 married persons in six domestic companies by the questionnaire method, and 477 responses were analyzed.
The result shows that positive psychological capital is related positively to job satisfaction and negatively to job alienation. It also shows that affect plays a mediating role between positive psychological capital and job satisfaction/ alienation.
The results above present that an individual s affect plays a key role in realizing the potential power of positive psychological capital on job attitudes, and is expected to increase job performance. Some managerial implications of the study results are discussed, and future research directions are proposed.
