근거이론의 수행방법에 대한 이해 = Understanding Grounded Theory

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 질적연구방법으로서 근거이론을 적용하고자 하는 연구자들이 참조할 수 있는 실천적 가이드 라인을 제시하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 특히 다음의 세 가지 중심주제에 논의의 초점을 두었다: (1) 첫째, 연구자들이 자신의 질적연구에서 근거이론의 필요성과 정당성을 실효적으로 제시할 수 있도록 이론적 논거로서 근거이론의 개념, 대두배경, 및 방법론적 의의를 논의하였다. (2) 둘째, 근거이론을 사용한 연구가 실제 어떠한 연구 산출물을 제시할 수 있는지 혹은 어떠한 연구문제를 다룰 수 있는지를 ‘이론 및 연구문제의 유형’을 제시함으로써 검토하였다. (3) 셋째, 연구자가 근거이론의 분석기법인 질적코딩을 실제 수행하는 데에 있어서 겪기 쉬운 난점들을 논의하고, 이를 극복하기 위하여 근거이론가들이 제안한 다양한 기법들을 예시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to provide qualitative researchers -particularly novice researchers- with practical guidelines of grounded theory so that they are better able to apply the method into actual case studies. My understanding is that while prevalent accounts as to grounded theory have been busy dealing with profound epistemological or theoretical issues, the basic how-to-guideline have been largely overlooked thus far. Therefore, those researchers who would use grounded theory as their qualitative research strategy were in loss with practical guideline. This study seeks to fill in the gap. Particular attention was paid to three aspects: (1) First, the basic concept, contextual background, and justification logics of grounded theory were addressed. (2) Second, the types and styles of theories that can be generated through grounded theoretical research procedure were introduced. (3) Third, the
difficulties and their solutions in conducting qualitative coding were suggested.
