자유학기제 연구학교의 교육과정 특성 분석: 2013 자유학기제 연구학교 보고서 분석을 중심으로 = An analysis of school reports on Free Learning Semester: Focusing on development and operation of school curriculum

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Reports after the execution of a Free Learning Semester(FLS) in 42 pilot schools were analyzed, focusing on the development and operation of school curricula. The results showed that time devoted to basic subjects from common courses decreased and that time for optional courses had increased. In this paper, the optional course from each school was examined to determine which activities the schools stressed and if the schools had tried to connect between their FLS and after school or Saturday programs. Time spent on common courses was reduced to 64.4%, and that spent on optional courses was weighed in favor of arts/sports, career exploration, club activities, and the optional program, in that order. In addition, 42.9% of schools operated the FLS only within the school curriculum; 47.6% of schools operated it linked with an after school program; 2.4% of schools operated it connected with a Saturday program; and 7.1% of schools operated it connected with both. Our suggestions are as follows: first, students` needs should be assessed and their choices should be expanded when the curriculum is developed; second, school-based curriculum development should be encouraged and carried out; third, connections within and without the FLS should be considered; last, the educational identity of middle schools should be settled by executing a FLS in an appropriate way.
