Since the use of 2007 revised national physical education curriculum, the content in elementary and secondary PE consisted of five domains; healthy activity, challenge activity, competitive activity, expressive activity, and leisure activity. Of those five activities, the expressive activity is not focused on dance only unlike the past national curricular in the Republic of Korea. It is being taught how to express critical and creative thinking using a variety of physical movements. However, there exists lack of pedagogical knowledge or experience in teaching creative movement in school PE. Thus, the purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical overview of Motif Theory which developed from Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and describe its applications to PE context. Ultimately, this study would be able to provide systematic and practical approaches for teaching creative movements to physical educators who did not specialize dance.
