대학생의 학습성과와 대학특성 및 학습과정 변인 간의 구조적 관계 분석 = An Analysis of the Structural Relationships between Student Learning Outcomes and Institutional Characteristics and Student Engagement

The purpose of this study was to make a close inquiry into the structural relationships between students’ learning outcomes and college environment, class engagement, student-faculty interaction and integration of experiences, focusing in particular on the impact of college environment and classroom engagement on learning outcomes, and on the mediating effect of integration of experiences. In addition, this study tried to determine whether there are differences depending on the structural causal relationship and the institutional characteristics by region and establishment type. Using the data from 18,331 students in 29 universities in 2011, this study employed MAVOVA (multivariate analysis of variance), SEM (structural equation modeling) and Multiple Group Analysis. This study confirmed students’ attitudes towards college environment; in other words, college environment has a significant effect on improving students’ learning outcomes. This study also confirmed the indirect effects of student-faculty interaction, class engagement and learning outcomes through the medium of integration of experiences. What is more, there are differences in path-coefficient between variables of institutional characteristics by region and establishment type. Finally, the study discussed the limitations of the research and provided academic and political implications.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 대학교육의 학습성과와 대학환경, 수업참여, 교수학생 상호작용, 경험의 통합 간의 구조적 관계를 규명하고자 하였다. 특히 대학환경과 수업참여가 학습성과에 미치는 영향과 경험의 통합의 매개효과를 분석하는데 초점을 두었다. 또한 이러한 구조적인 인과관계가 지역 및 설립유형별 대학특성에 따라 차이가 있는지를 규명하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 2011년도 한국교육개발원 학습과정에 관한 조사에 응답한 전국 29개 대학의 학생 18,331명의 자료를 바탕으로 다변량분산분석(MANOVA), 구조방정식 모형 분석(SEM), 다중집단분석(Multiple Group Analysis)을 수행하였다. 분석결과, 학교환경을 학생들이 전반적으로 어떻게 인식하고 있는가, 즉 대학환경이 학습성과 향상에 큰 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 확인했다. 또한 교수학생 상호작용 및 수업참여와 학습성과 사이에 경험의 통합을 매개로 한 간접효과를 확인했다. 그리고 지역 및 설립유형에 따른 대학특성별로 변인들 간의 경로계수에 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 연구의 제한과 학술적, 정책적 함의를 논의하였다.
