도시관광개발의 특성과 향후 연구방향 = The Characteristics of Urban Tourism Development and Future Research Directions

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study identifies the characteristics of urban tourism development and suggests future research directions about this area of study. Summarized are the characteristics of urban tourism development such as follows: 1) heterogeneous diversity but imitative similarity, 2) clustering of cultural industries, 3) gateway function's difference based on the centrality among tourist cities, 4) free development strategies due to extensive potential demand, 5) various strategies for the symbolized urban space, 6) active development of public urban space based on the space-sharing between tourists and citizen, and 7) tourism urbanization and differential urban space. In spite of these various characteristics, researches of urban tourism development have been limited to few themes related on this area of study.
Based on the characteristics and research trend of urban tourism development, some future research directions are suggested. First, each place in urban space must be conceptualized with tourist function. Second, research that regards tourist function as a substantial component in the area of urban development is needed. Third, studies for the economic impact of urban tourism industry must be considered. Fourth, case studies on urban tourism development must be diversified into various ranges of cities for the practical benchmarking.
