문화적 특성에 따른 그림책 표지의 조형적 재맥락화 = Picturebook cover’s formative re-contextualisation based on cultural characteristic

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research inspected the formative re-contextualisation portrayed in the covers of the same picturebook published in Eastern countries such as South Korea and in Western countries such as United Kingdom, United States, and France and reviewed the difference in perspectives caused by cultural propensity of the between the East and the West and the change and impact it has on the visual forms.
This research analysed the difference in the cognitive ability thinking skills of an Easterner and Westerner and cultural characteristics of South Koreans who has been shaped by the effect of Confucianism and Western influences and has extracted the cultural peculiarity comparison items that can be applied on the interpretation of cover image based on Cultural anthropologists Hofstede and Hall’s comparative cultural dimensions.
This research also drew a conclusion on the cultural interpretation from the substitution of the aforementioned cultural comparison item with a modification based on compare and contrast of the content relevancy and expressive dimension of the picture book covers of each of the narrations from Korea, United Kingdom, United States, and France.
It was discovered that a difference in viewpoint change and impact in the visual form individualism vs collectivism, high context vs low context, tendency of uncertainty avoidance, principle of emotional prioritisation, insider and outsider, blank space and colour for picturebook covers of Korea, United Kingdom, United States, and France despite picturebook cover having the same text, formative difference and modifications existed due to the cultural peculiarity of the East and the West.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 동양권인 한국과 서구권인 영,미, 프랑스의 동일한 그림책 표지에서 나타나는 조형적 재맥락화에 대해 살펴보고, 동양과 서양의 문화적 성향에 의해 바라보는 관점의 차이가 시각적 형태에 어떠한 변화와 영향을 끼치는지 알아보는데 그 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 문화인류학 연구가인 Hofstede와 Hall의 비교 문화차원과 동양인과 서양인의 인지사고의 차이, 유교와 서구의 영향을 받아 형성된 한국인의 문화적 문법에 대해 연구하고, 이를 바탕으로 표지 이미지 해석에 적용할 수 있는 문화 특성 비교 항목을 추출하였다.
한국과 영,미,프랑스 그림책 표지를 각각 서사소통모델인 내용적, 표현적 차원으로 비교, 분석한 뒤, 앞에서 나온 문화비교항목을 대입하여 변형에 따른 문화적 해석을 도출하였다. 그 결과 동일한 텍스트를 다룬 그림책 표지 임에도 동양과 서구의 문화적 특성에 따라 다른 조형적 차이와 변형이 이루어지고 있으며, 한국과 영,미 프랑스 그림책 표지 안에서 개인주의와 집단주의, 고맥락과 저맥락, 불확실성회피 성향, 감정우선주의, 인사이더와 아웃사이더, 여백과 색을 바라보는 관점의 차이가 시각적 형태의 변화에 영향을 미치고 있다는 사실을 발견할 수 있었다.
