백워드 설계 방식을 통한 단위학교 교육과정 개발 방안 탐색 = In Search of School Curriculum Development Based on Backward Design Model

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research has been carried out to consider the purpose of developing school curriculum and propose backward design as an alternative approach to current school curriculum development. Several curriculum documents from elementary schools chosen through purposed sampling was analyzed, in order to investigate on the actual condition of school curriculum development. As a result, some problems have come up; the lack of consistency in educational objectives, learning contents, method, and assessment; the passive curriculum organization kept within bounds of the mandated curriculum. With considering the matter carefully, we suggest backward design and discuss its features and worth theoretically according to Wiggins & McTighe. And then we suggested backward design application for school curriculum development showing examples and attention points with a focus on three steps from ‘Understanding by Design’ / ten curriculum components from ‘Schooling by Design’. Backward design model is more than a change of developing procedure. It is rather an approach that highly focus on long-term transfer goals and understanding. In such a context, this research implies that backward design is useful for developing accountable and professional school curriculum.
