빈곤층의 경제적 스트레스와 우울 관계에서 자기효능감과 사회적 지지의 효과 = The Effects of Self-Efficacy and Social Support in the Relationship between Economic Stress and Depression of the Indigent Population

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 빈곤층의 경제적 스트레스와 우울 관계에서 자기효능감과 사회적 지지가 어떤 역할을 하는지를 파악하는 것이다. 연구대상자는 경남지역 5개 시·군의 자활후견기관과 지역사회에 거주하는 20세 이상의 국민기초생활보장 수급자와 차상위계층의 232명이었다. 자료분석은 상관관계분석, 위계적 회귀분석, 이원분산분석, Baron과 Kenny(1986)의 방식을 통하여 매개효과를 검증하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 빈곤층의 자기효능감과 사회적 지지(가족지지, 가족 외 지지)가 경제적 스트레스와 우울에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해서 성, 연령, 혼인상태, 소득, 동거가족 수를 통제변인으로 두고 분석한 결과, 자기효능감과 사회적 지지는 경제적 스트레스와 유의미한 관계를 나타내지 않았지만 우울과는 부적으로 유의한 관계를 보였다. 둘째, 빈곤층의 경제적 스트레스와 우울은 일반적으로 스트레스가 우울에 미치는 관계와 같이 정적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 셋째, 경제적 스트레스가 우울에 미치는 영향에서 자기효능감과 사회적 지지는 조절변인으로 작용을 하지 않았다. 즉, 우울에 대한 스트레스와 자기효능감, 가족지지, 가족 외 지지의 상호작용효과는 유의하지 않았다. 넷째, 매개효과 검증에서 자기효능감과 가족 외 지지는 경제적 스트레스와 우울 간의 관계에서 완전매개역할은 하지 않지만 부분매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 가족지지는 경제적 스트레스와 우울 간의 관계에서 매개역할을 하지 않는 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 빈곤층의 정신건강증진을 위해 시사하는 바를 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-efficacy and social support in the relationship of economic stress and depression of the indigent population. This study was performed on 232 people (the beneficiary of national Basic livelihood security act and the near poor group) who are older than 20 years and live in 5 Cities and Guns of Gyeongnam Province. For data analysis, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, two-way ANOVA, and Baron and Kenny(1986)`s method were used. The study results are as below. Firstly, to examine the effects of self-efficacy and social support(family support, out-of-family support) on the economic stress and depression of the indigent population, we performed analysis by putting the gender, age, marriage status, income, and number of family members who live together as control variables and found out that the self-efficacy and social support didn`t show any meaningful relationship with economic stress but showed negatively meaningful relationship with depression. Secondly, the economic stress and depression of the indigent population showed positively meaningful relationship as well as general relationship of stress and depression. Thirdly, the self-efficacy and social support didn`t act as moderation variables in the effect of economic stress on depression. That is, the self-efficacy, family support, out-of-family support couldn`t moderate the relationship of economic stress and depression of the indigent population. Fourthly, upon verifying mediation effect, self-efficacy and family support didn`t take the role of perfect mediation but partial mediation in the relationship between economic stress and depression. The family support, however, didn`t take mediating role in the relationship between economic stress and depression. We discussed suggestions for improving mental health of the indigent population in Korea based on this study results.
