대학장학생이 경험한 대학2학년:‘불안한 긍정’의 현재진행 = “A Case Study on the Sophomore Year Experiences of College Students Who Received a Merit-Based Scholarship”

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 저소득층 가정배경에서도 우수한 개인역량으로 자신의 삶을 성공적으로 이끌어온 장학생이 경험한 대학생활에 관한 사례연구이다. 이를 위하여, S장학재단의 대학장학생 가운데 2학년생 14명을 선정하여, 각 2회에 걸친 심층면담으로 자료를 수집하였다. 여기에서는 전공과정에 처음 진입하여 본격적인 대학생활을 시작하는 대학 2학년으로 시기를 한정하였다. 분석결과, 연구참여자 들은 이 시기에 전공 진입과 군입대라는 주요생애사건을 경험하며, 이 과정에서 빈곤으로 인한 학교밖 학습기회, 학업시간, 그리고 미래 선택지의 제약을 겪는다. 그러나, 중고시절부터 여러 어려움을 극복하며 단련한 결과로 자신에게 주어진 구조적 여건에 능동적으로 대처하는 모습을 보인다. 상황에 대한 긍정적 해석, 목표의 단기세분화, 당면과업의 집중몰입 등이 이들이 긍정화기제로 사용하는 전략이다. 사회적 압력이 점차 높아지는 가운데 장학재단의 미시적 지원과 개인의 능동적 대응으로 적응해가는 이들의 모습은 아직까지는 ‘불안한 긍정’의 현재진행형이라 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to explore the sophomore year experiences of college students who received a merit-based scholarship. A case study design is used to gain an in-depth understanding of experiences of college students from low-income families. The participants are selected among the scholarship students of the S Scholarship Foundation from 2013. Semi-structured interviews of fifteen students were conducted twice for the data collection.
As the results, the participants have had two life events in the sophomore year: to enter their own major course and to get recruited for military service. They have been suffering the constraints of time, money and future choices because of their low-income family background. And yet, they have developed their own positive living strategies to deal with the difficult situation: to do a positive spin on their situation, to break the goals down and to focus on the pending tasks.
