인권친화적 학교문화가 청소년의 시민의식에 미치는 영향 = A Study on the Effects of Pro-Human Rights Culture in Schools on Youths` Civil Consciousness

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study purports to investigate a potential effect of pro-human rights culture in schools on civil consciousness of youths. The independent variables include those variables such as the level of pro-human right culture in school, current status of human rights in schools, experience on discrimination and youths`` participation upon school affairs. The model controls demographic characteristics of youths(gender, age, a dummy for multi-cultural families), psychological attributes(self-respect, belief upon self development, self-concept), school-related variables(academic achievement, a dummy for innovation schools), and nurturing attitudes of parents. The multiple regression analysis shows some meaningful findings. First and foremost, the level of schools`` pro-human rights culture turns out to have a significant impact upon youth``s levels of civil consciousness. Secondly, some control variables significantly affect youths`` level of civil consciousness. Those are gender, school satisfaction, self-concept, self-respect and so on. Lastly, it is not the innovation school per se, but the actual programs in schools for pro-human rights that matters for youths``s civil consciousness. This study hopes to contribute to expand the recognition that pro-human rights culture in school positively works for youths`` development of civil mind. This study also acknowledges that future research are to focus on finding the potential paths on how those cultures in schools affect youths`` civil attitudes.
