신명의 개념화 및 구조화 연구 = A qualitative study of conceptualizing "Shinmyeong"

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to generate a substantial theory about Shinmyeong experience. This study was executed by applying the grounded theory based on Strauss and Corbin(1998). Open-ended questionnaire survey was conducted to 220 participants and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 participants. The qualitative data were analyzed with the open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. Three types of Shinmyeong experiences assumed by theoretical study were demonstrated and their categories were extracted by open coding. The structures of their categories were concretized by axial coding and selective coding.
The causal condition was 'Recognition of self(or group) worth', the contextual condition was 'Negative perception of past self(or group)', the phenomena were 'Primary pleasure' and ’secondary pleasure', the intervening condition was ’sharing pleasure(co-experience)', the action/interaction was 'Radiating the self(or gourp) worth', and the consequence was ’sense of freedom', 'Acquirement of positive feelings' and so on.
According to the results, Shinmyeong experience consists of three phases; pleasure from recognition(or expression) of one’s self-worth, sharing the feeling with other people, and radiating negative feeling through expressive behaviors.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국사람들의 신명을 이론적으로 개념화하고 체계적으로 구조화하기 위한 목적을 가지고 수행되었다. 신명에 대한 이론적 분석을 바탕으로 실제로 신명을 경험하는 일반인들의 자료를 개방형 설문 및 반구조화 면접의 방식으로 수집하고 근거이론의 절차에 의해 분석함으로써, 신명이 경험되는 과정과 신명경험의 구조를 조사하였다. 그 결과, 신명은 전환적 사건의 발생에 의해 자신의 자기가치감이 회복되거나 타인들에게 인정받았을 때, ‘우리’라고 생각할 수 있는 사람들과 어떠한 일을 함께 경험하면서 우리의식을 확인할 때, 그리고 자신의 가치와 관련된 것들을 표현하는 과정에서 경험되는 것으로 나타났다. 신명을 경험하면 사람들은, 즐거움, 유쾌함 같은 1차적 쾌감과 함께, 자신의 자기가치감과 연계된 2차적 쾌감을 느끼며, 그러한 감정을 주위에 있는 사람들과 함께 경험하고, 그 사실에서 다시 쾌감을 느끼게 된다. 사람들은 그러한 감정들을 표출하기 위해 분출 및 몰입행동을 하게 되는데, 이러한 신명의 행동들은 신명의 감정들을 강화하며, 강화된 감정은 다시 신명 행동에 영향을 미친다. 이러한 감정과 행동의 피드백을 통해 신명이 경험되고, 이후의 긍정적인 결과를 낳게 되는 것이다.
