청소년기 자아존중감의 발달궤적과 예측요인

국문 초록 (Abstract)

자아존중감은 사회적 행동을 결정하는 원인인 동시에 사회적 행동으로 인해 영향을 받는 발달산물이다. 하지만 지금까지 우리나라의 연구에서 자아존중감은 사회적 행동의 원인으로만 간주되어온 경향이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 상대적으로 소외되었던 자아존중감의 결과로서의 가능성을 종단적으로 검토하려고 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 자아존중감의 발달궤적(development trajectory)을 도출하고, 개인·가족·또래집단·학교요인이 발달궤적에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 한국청소년정책연구원이 2003년부터 조사하기 시작한 중학교 2학년 청소년패널 1-3차년도 자료를 사용하였고, 분석대상은 총 3,449명이었다. 분석방법은 잠재성장모형(latent growth curve modeling)과 준모수적 집단중심모형(semi-parametric group-based modeling)을 사용하였다. 잠재성장모형의 분석결과 자아존중감은 3년간 증가하는 형태를 보여주었다. 자아존중감의 발달궤적에 영향을 미치는 요인을 살펴보면, 신체적 매력·부모의 학대·학업성취는 자아존중감의 초기치와 변화율에 모두 유의미한 영향을 끼친 반면, 부모자녀애착·부모지도감독·학교애착은 자아존중감의 초기치에만, 가족갈등은 자아존중감의 변화율에만 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 준모수적 집단중심모형의 분석결과 자아존중감의 발달궤적이 하위집단, 중간집단, 상위집단 세 가지 유형으로 구분되는 것으로 나타났고, 신체적 매력·부모자녀애착·학교애착·학업성취는 이러한 발달궤적 집단유형을 구분하는 유의미한 예측요인으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 자아존중감 향상을 위한 청소년복지의 실천적 함의가 논의되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine developmental trajectories of adolescent self-esteem and to identify predictors that might account for individual differences in both the initial level and rate of change over time. This study used data from wave 1-3(2003-2005) of the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS). The results of latent growth curve modeling showed that adolescent self-esteem has increased for three years and there were also significant individual differences in the initial level and the rate of change in self-esteem. Physical attractiveness, child abuse, and academic achievement predicted both the initial level and rate of change in self-esteem. While parent-child attachment, parental monitoring and school attachment predicted only the initial level, family conflict predicted only the rate of change. In addition, semi-parametric group-based modeling(SGM) was used to identify groups of individuals following different self-esteem trajectories by estimating different patterns of intraindividual stability and change. SGM revealed three different developmental trajectories of self-esteem: low, medium, high self-esteem group. Physical attractiveness, parent-child attachment, school attachment, and academic achievement differentiated the three self-esteem trajectories from one another. Practice implications for youth welfare from this study are discussed to enhance adolescent self-esteem.
