의료 서비스 환경에서 디자인의 필요성과 디자이너의 역할에 관한 소고 = Some Thoughts about The Needs for Design and the Role of Designer in Innovative Medical Service System

The role of design has expanded as times change, and design has different meanings depending on the context. At present, the role of design is expanding, from solving simple visual problems to suggesting solutions through an understanding of what can be considered as a total service system. The entire world is now looking for opportunities to discover new markets, and through active research, the world is applying the results of research to various service industries. Recently, South Korea has started to acknowledge the need for research and development in the service industries. Much effort has been made to develop new service designs and improvement processes. However, there is a lack of understanding of design as a major means of enhancing innovative service industries. Many details are still missing in service industries, and in service field in which actual services are implemented, there is a lack of specialization. There are many service quality problems, such as the provision of different services by different personnel, which need to be solved. In order to improve the service experience and to visualize the ideal experience, the standardization of service designs must be studied. In this study, the need for designs in innovative medical service systems and an expanded role of designer will be explored through service design case studies in the medical field. Defining the relationship between design overall and medical and healthcare service designs is required before an innovative medical service can be studied. Moreover, finding the proper design vision and design directions is necessary.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

디자인은 시대의 변화에 따라 그 역할이 확장되어 어떤 맥락에서 어떻게 적용하느냐에 따라 다양한 의미를 지닌다. 서비스 산업 시대 속에서 디자인의 역할은 단순한 시각적 문제 해결만이 아닌 전체적인 서비스 시스템을 파악하여 근본적인 해결책을 제시하는 것으로 그 영역을 확장하고 있다. 지금 전 세계는 혁신을 통해 잠재되어 있는 새로운 시장을 발견할 기회를 찾고, 활발한 연구를 통해 그 결과를 다양한 서비스 산업에 적용하고 있다. 그에 비해 한국은 최근에야 서비스 산업 연구·개발의 필요성을 인식하기 시작하고 새로운 서비스 개발 및 프로세스 개선에 많은 관심을 기울이고 있기는 하지만, 디자인을 혁신적인 서비스 산업의 경쟁력 강화를 위한 주요한 방법론으로 인식하는 데에는 많이 부족한 실상이다. 아직은 서비스 산업의 구체성이 떨어지고, 실질적으로 서비스를 구현하거나 실행하는 곳에서도 프로세스가 전문화되어 있지 않아 서비스 제공자에 따라 서비스의 품질이 달라지는 등 해결해야 할 문제가 많다. 서비스의 경험 가치를 높이고 그 경험을 구체적으로 가시화, 표준화하는 서비스 디자인 시스템의 연구가 시급한 시점이다. 본 연구에서는 혁신적인 서비스 산업 중 주목받고 있는 의료·보건 분야에서의 서비스 디자인 사례 연구를 통해 의료 서비스 환경에서 디자인의 필요성과 역할을 살펴보고, 의료 서비스 분야에서의 확장된 디자이너의 역할에 대해서도 알아본다. 의료 서비스와 디자인의 관계성을 정립하는 것은 앞으로 활발히 연구되어질 의료 서비스의 혁신에 있어서 반드시 선행될 필요가 있으며, 현 시대에 맞는 디자인 비전과 앞으로 나아갈 방향을 모색함에 그 의의가 있다.
