The purpose of this study is to research the relationship between employment and the Quality of life(QOL) for individuals with mental retardation. The QOL is properly defined by the relation between subjective or person- based elements and a set of objective circumstances. The subjective elements of a high quality of life compose : (l) a sense of subjective well-being and (2) personal development, learning, growth. The objective clement is conceived as quality of conditions representing opportunities for exploitation by the person living a life. The suggestions of this study are as follows : First, the comprehension of individuals with mental retardation has been changed with times. The tendency is that prejudice against them has been gradually reduced, because of private organizations efforts and professionals efforts. For improvement of this prejudice, we should develop new employment types and provide motivation. Second, individuals with mental retardation are unaware of convenient services given them, without knowing how to use them. Therefore, it is necessary to give a lot of employment s chances and much information. Third, sufficient to satisfactory level of the economic independence, self-esteem, and social interaction can be achieved through opportunities of employment. We should propose to alternatives for employment of the professionals as well as policies of the governments.
