수학교육을 통한 인성교육에 대한 초등학교 교사의 인식 연구 = A study on Teacher’s Perception of Humanity Education through Mathematics Education in Elementary School

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to investigate the teacher’s perception of overall character education through mathematics in use in elementary school that had applied 2009 revised mathematics curriculum which was put in effect due to social demand emphasizing the need for character education in students at the time. In other words, through analysing questionnaires consisting of items related to the possibility of character education through mathematics education, current situation in character education, and its activation plan, we can get implications for character education through mathematics education. For this study, questionnaires were collected and analysed from 200 teachers who work at the elementary schools in Busan. The results are as follows: Elementary school teachers think that it is possible to teach character education in mathematics. They also think that it is possible through mathematical thinking and communicative skills such as creative problem solving. Thus the desired character and attitude appeared to be cooperation, patience, fairness, honesty and caring. The higher grade teachers had more negative attitudes for teaching character education in mathematics because characteristics of mathematics itself does not consist with the elements of character traits. We conclude that we have to provide in-service training course and need to develop the resources for character education in mathematics.
