The purpose of this study was to analyze the education system and curricula of China, which is closely related with Korea historically and geographically, in order for helping improve the curricula of Korean elementary school physical education on the basis of our understanding the direction of the educational reform and merits and the dements of Chinese education system.
The method of this study was mainly literature review and the procedures for the study were as follows.
(1) Analyzing Chinese compulsory education system and its curricula,
(2) Comparing Chinese elementary school schedules and its curricula with those of Korea, respectively,
(3) Examining the characteristics of Chinese elementary school physical education curricula,
(4) Comparing the characteristics of Chinese elementary school physical education with those of Korea.
The results of the study could be summarized as follows.
(1) The elementary school physical education curricula of China were mainly based on the sport education and fitness, while those of Korea were mainly based on the movement education model.
(2) The elementary school physical education curricula of China included "play" as an important content element.
(3) The elementary school physical education curricula of China specified not only the methods, area, and criteria of evaluation but also the methods of the score calculation in details.
