Global Citizenship(지구시민성)에 관한 연구 = A study on global citizenship for youths

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to explore the notion of global citizenship and the conceptual framework of global citizenship education for youths. In this global era, global citizenship has been emphasized that a globalized world and national-states characterized by diversity while requiring a primary commitment to the nation-state. The study examined global citizenship of youths who participated international work camp while applying the pre-test and post-test design with the scale of global citizenship for youths. Data were collected from 45 youths who joined international work camps in July, 2010. The global citizenship scale consists of social justice and human rights, environment issues and sustainable developments, diversity-national, regional, ethnic, cultural with respect to knowledge and understanding, skills, and values and attitudes. A key finding was that the level of global citizenship of youths was substantially improved. The implications of the study was that international exchange programs for youths might be global citizenship education that improved multicultural notions and experiences; and, NGOs efforts for global citizenship education might contribute to conceptualize global citizenship in field activities.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 거대 담론적 차원에서 global citizenship(지구시민성)의 개념과 구성요인을 살펴보고, 지구시민성교육의 주요한 특성을 고찰하였다. 또한, 청소년 국제교류활동을 통한 global citizenship(지구시민성) 함양을 측정하기 위하여 Oxfam(1997)이 제시한 지식 및 이해, 가치 및 태도, 실천 및 실천의지의 3가지 차원으로 ① 사회정의, ② 환경 보전 및 지속가능한 발전, ③ 타(이)문화 이해와 수용, 다문화 감수성 및 다양성 함양을 측정하였다. 분석대상은 2010년 7월 동안 12박 13일 동안에 인도, 캄보디아, 필리핀 각지에서 국제워크캠프로 해외봉사캠프활동을 경험한 중․고등학생 및 대학생 47명을 대상으로, 캠프 활동 이전과 이후에 변화된 지구시민성 함양 효과를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 지구시민성의 모든 구성요인에서 체험활동 이후 긍정적인 향상을 보이고 있었다. 이에 따라 NGOs의 국제교류활동이 수행하는 지구시민성교육으로서 기능과 역할을 기대할 수 있으며, 청소년의 지구시민성 함양의 필요성과 함의를 제안하고자 한다.
