노년기의 외로움 및 생활만족도와 관련된 변인탐색 = An Examination of Variables Influencing Loneliness and Life- Satisfaction of the Aged: With Focus on Emotional Support

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is aimed at investigating the effects of marriage status, types of family, romantic love, and emotional support from spouse, children and friends on loneliness and life-satisfaction of the aged. For this purpose, 225 aged people were asked to complete a questionnaire concerned. According to the results, those who were living with their spouses were more advantageous in terms of marital commitment, emotional support and loneliness related to spouse, but not in overall loneliness and life-satisfaction. In relation to family types, aged persons living single were unfavorable in marital commitment and loneliness due to their spouse and children, family types were not critical in their psychological health. Romantic love with spouse were linked to emotional support from spouse, but not to loneliness and life-satisfaction. However, the group emotionally least supported from spouse, children and friends were the most disadvantageous in romantic love, loneliness and life-satisfaction, the group most supported were the most advantageous, and the groups modestly supported were between these two extreme groups. These findings were discussed in terms of the importance of emotional support in loneliness and life-satisfaction of the aged.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 노인들의 외로움과 생활만족도가 배우자와의 동거여부, 동거가족의 유형, 배우자와의 사랑 그리고 정서적 지지의 정도에 따른 차이를 알아보고자 했다. 이를 위해 서울에 위치한 2개의 복지관을 이용하는 노인 225명(남: 152명, 여: 55명, 무응답: 18명)에게 설문을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 배우자와 동거하는 노인이 그렇지 않은 노인에 비해 배우자에 대한 책임감 및 배우자로부터의 정서적 지지가 높았고 배우자로 인한 외로움은 낮았지만, 그 외의 종류의 외로움이나 생활만족도에서는 집단 간 차이가 없었다. 동거 유형의 경우, 혼자 사는 노인이 책임감, 배우자나 자녀로 인한 외로움을 더 크게 경험하는 경향이 있지만, 전반적으로 동거유형 간에 노인들의 사랑, 정서적 지지, 외로움 및 생활만족도에서 중요한 차이는 없었다. 참가자들을 사랑의 세 하위유형에서 얻은 점수에 근거하여 네 유형의 집단으로 구분하였는데, 배우자로부터의 정서적 지지에서는 이 집단들 간에 차이가 있었지만, 외로움이나 생활만족도에서는 집단 간 차이가 없었다. 그러나 배우자와의 사랑, 외로움 및 생활만족도의 차원에서 볼 때, 배우자, 자식 및 친구의 정서적 지지 각각에서 모두 낮은 집단이 배우자와의 사랑 및 생활만족도에서 낮았으며 외로움 수준은 높았다. 반면, 모두 높은 집단은 배우자와의 사랑 및 생활만족도에서는 높았으며 외로움은 낮았고 나머지 두 집단은 중간에 위치했다. 이러한 결과에 근거하여 노년기의 외로움과 생활만족도에서 정서적 지지의 중요성을 논의하였다.
