시설 노인의 자아존중감에 영향을 미치는 요인 탐색 = Predictors of Self-Esteem Among Older Adults in Nursing Home

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purposes of this research were: (1) to assess the level of self-esteem among older adults in nursing home, (2) to identify predictors of self-esteem for the elderly. Elderly people in nursing home of Kyunggi-Do area were interviewed, using self-esteem scale. The results revealed that the level of self-esteem among respondents was quite low. Step-wise multiple regression analyses showed that the factors influencing self-esteem of the elderly residents were social support, self-rated health status, gender, and residency with spouse. Predictors for the characteristics of institutional life in nursing home were not related to self-esteem scale. Implications for social work practice were presented. Social support intervention and intervention through exercise may help to increase self-esteem for the elderly. Special consideration for the elderly women and living arrangement in nursing home should be included in the care plan to promote self-esteem. This study needs to be supplemented by further study in order to fully explore intervention strategies for elderly people in nursing home.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 시설에 거주하는 노인들의 자아존중감에 대해 살펴보고, 자아존중감에 영향을 미치는 요인은 무엇인지 파악하여 이들에 대한 시설차원의 개입을 위한 함의를 찾아보는 것이었다. 연구대상은 경기도의 노인복지시설에 거주하는 노인들이며, 사회복지학과 학생들의 면접에 의해 자료수집이 이루어졌다. 연구결과 시설거주노인의 자아존중감은 비교적 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 재가노인에 대한 연구에서와 마찬가지로 사회적 지지, 건강상태평가, 성별, 배우자 동거여부 등이 자아존중감에 영향을 미치는 중요한 변수인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 시설생활특성 변인들은 설명력이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 시설노인들의 자아존중감 향상을 위한 개입방안에 대해 논의하였다.
