노인의 죽음불안과 우울이 자살생각에 미치는 영향 = A Pathmodel for Death Anxiety to Suicidal Ideation of the Elderly

This study investigates multidimensional aspects of elderly's death anxiety, and how this anxiety impacts on their suicidal ideation through depression. For the purpose of the study, the survey was conducted and 431 elderly over 60 year - old who reside in Taegu and Kyongpook province participated. The result of the study indicated that health status and financial status of the elderly showed statistically significant differences in the level of death anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation of the elderly. Based on multidimensional model, death anxiety consisted of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and transpersonal anxiety. To find out how death anxiety of the elderly impact on the suicidal ideation directly and indirectly through depression, multiple liner regression was utilized after controling for health and financial status of the elderly. The results showed that intrapersonal and interpersonal anxiety were statistically significant factors in explaining the elderly's suicidal ideation directly and indirectly. Intrapersonal factors more influenced suicidal ideation directly, while interpersonal factors more influenced indirectly through depression. Finally, based on the findings of the study, implications for the elderly services and recommendations of further study were provided.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 노인이 경험하는 죽음불안을 다차원적 측면에서 파악하고, 노인의 죽음불안이 우울을 매개로 하여 자살생각에 미치는 직․간접적 영향을 규명하기위해 실시되었다. 이를 위해, 대구 경북지역에 거주하는 60세 이상의 431명의 노인을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 노인의 건강상태와 경제적 수준이 노인의 죽음불안과 우울, 자살생각에 유의한 차이를 보이는 사회인구학적 변인으로 나타났다. 노인의 죽음불안을 다차원적 모델에 근거하여, 개인내적 불안, 개인외적 불안, 한계초월적 불안으로 파악한 후, 죽음불안이 우울과 자살생각에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 건강상태와 경제적 수준을 통제한 후 분석하였다. 그 결과, 개인내적 불안과 개인외적 불안이 우울과 자살생각에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었으며, 이 두 변인이 자살생각에 이르는 경로를 분석한 결과, 개인내적 불안은 우울을 매개로 한 간접효과보다 직접효과가 더 큰 것으로 나타난 반면, 개인외적 불안은 우울을 매개로 한 간접적 효과가 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 기초로 실천적 함의와 후속연구에 대한 방안을 제시하였다.
