성공적 노화를 위한 신체 장애노인의 심리적 임파워먼트 관련 요인 연구 = A Study on the psychological empowerment ofelderly with physical disabilities

국문 초록 (Abstract)

성공적 노화의 개념은 신체적 건강을 강조하는 상태에서는 장애노인에게 적용이 어려웠으나, 점차 성공적 노화에 있어 심리적 요인이 중요해 짐에 따라 장애노인의 성공적 노화에 대한 가능성도 고려할 수 있게 되었다. 장애노인에게 있어 성공적 노화는 심리적 임파워먼트가 중심이 된다는 점에서 장애노인의 심리적 임파워먼트와 관련된 요인에 대한 연구는 의미가 있으나 지금까지 이러한 연구는 별로 시도된 바 없다. 본 연구의 목적은 지체 및 뇌 병변 장애노인의 심리적 임파워먼트와 관련된 요인을 찾아 장애노인의 성공적 노화를 위한 함의를 도출하는 데 있다. 연구대상은 수도권에 거주하는 지체 및 뇌 병변 장애노인 291명이며, 전화조사 방법을 사용하였다. 연구결과 심리적 임파워먼트에 영향을 미치는 요인들은 교육정도, 배우자 유무, 장애정도, 장애유형, 장애수용정도 등으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 장애노인의 심리적 임파워먼트를 향상시키기 위해서 장애유형의 특성을 고려하여 차별화된 서비스를 제공해야 하며, 특히 장애노인의 장애수용정도를 향상시킬 수 있는 프로그램을 개발할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine the level of psychological empowerment for the physically disabled elderly, and to find out how the attribution to disability and individual trait affect the level of psychological empowerment for the physically disabled elderly as well as to determine which factor is more effective. The data was obtained through telephone interviews with physically disabled elderly residing in the city of Seoul and the suburb area of the city. The final sample consisted of 291 respondents. The major findings of this study were that the factors affecting the degree of psychological empowerment were religion, education, impairments, type of disability, personality, and self-esteem. In addition, the study showed that both attribution to disability and individual traits are strong factors affecting the level of psychological empowerment for the physically disabled elderly, but individual traits have stronger effect. The current findings suggest that development of a variety of programs to improve psychological empowerment of physically disabled elderly should be considered by professionals and policy makers. Also differentiated intervention and policy according to type of disability necessary to policy makers and rehabilitation practitioners.
