The objective of this study was to validate a multidimensional measure of psychological empowerment in the hotel industry. In addition, this research attempted to test the hypothesized relationships between empowerment and its determinants of job satisfaction and turnover intention. To measure these hypothesized relationships at the individual level of analysis, 246 employee responses from a multi-unit chain hotel were analyzed. The model was evaluated using structural equation modeling (SEM) utilizing SAS CALIS (SAS System, 1989). Results indicated that empowerment was found to have positive, direct effects on job satisfaction, whereas empowerment had a negative, direct effect on turnover intention. The negative relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention, as hypothesized in this study, was supported.
