노인요양시설의 입소과정에서 제공해야 하는 정보는 무엇인가?

The purpose of this study aims to identify what information is needed to provide for older adults or their guardians to make the admission decision process to nursing homes. In particular, a practical guide to information provision for nursing home admission was designed. Using a participatory action research, the researchers conducted in-depth interviews with 20 nursing home residents, 10 guardians for residents, and 7 admission counselors who were recruited from 3 nursing homes in capital regions and 4 nursing homes in local regions. Data analysis was performed by the constant comparative method. The findings from resident group revealed the several categories such as strengths and weaknesses of nursing home placement, facility location, room-mates’ characteristics, meal plan, adapting assistant, nursing home life, social engagement services, and improving quality in nursing homes. In-depth interviews with family member group suggested adapting assistant for newly placed resident, clothing, food, end housing life, informed consent, payments, perception about nursing homes, and organizational efforts to improve quality of care. In addition, facility admission counselor group identified introduction to admission, rights and responsibilities as a resident and legal representative, occurrences of accidents, rules and regulation, advance directives, and transfer and discharges. Based on the main results of the study, a practical guide to information provision for nursing home admission was developed and the guide obtained positive evaluation from service providers as well as users by applying it on admission counselling process. Finally, the strengths and limitations of the guide wee discussed for improvement of it.
