한국 대학생의 영어어휘 학습전략 연구 = A Study on Korean College Students’ Vocabulary Learning Strategies

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines how Korean college students use vocabulary learning strategies according to their English proficiency and vocabulary ability. 156 participants took a vocabulary strategy questionnaire and a vocabulary test. The results show that the more proficient in English the students were, the more memory strategies and cognitive strategies they employed, and that students with higher vocabulary ability were better at using discovery strategies and cognitive strategies. However, there was no statistical significance in metacognitive strategy use among three groups different in English proficiency and vocabulary ability. In particular, the higher-level group preferred cognitively demanding strategies more than the lower-level one. It is suggested that EFL learners be trained explicitly with vocabulary learning strategy use, which will enhance their vocabulary knowledge and English proficiency.
