과학박물관의 현황과 교육적 활용방안 연구

The Science Museum is the cultural and educational place
where people use and it aims to make people have science mind. The
purpose of this study is to show the activation of the Science
Museum through its education activities and role. The education
activities in the Science Museum consist of activities through
exhibitions, lectures and courses.
The programs in the advanced countrys Science Museums
were investigated, and the current science education activities in the
domestic Science Museums were analyzed in order to find the
problems and improve them. The foreign Science Museums have
served lectures, courses, workshops, and field trips that are planed and
executed by the authorized educators in the Science Museum
Education Department. People from different generations utilize these
museums to participate in the programs of the various educational
contents in the year around.
The Science Museums collaborate schools and the Education
Department offers the professional activities, in-service programs and
special educations to the school teachers. People use the Science
Museum as an informal education institution, for example, participating
the club activities for biodiversity conservation and seminars.
However in the domestic Science Museums, the education is mainly
restricted to students, so it limits opportunities of education activities
to make people have science mind.
The method for the activation of the Science Museum in
education is to develop the various education programs and make the
events which people are able to participate in. The Science Museum is
becoming the place of continuing education. In order to activate the
programs in Science Museums, we need training the professional
educators who are distinguished from curators, reinforcing the function
of education and demanding the efficient and aggressive administration.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 모든 대중을 그 이용대상으로 하여 전국민의 과학화를 목적
으로 하고 있는 과학의 문화·교육적 공간인 과학박물관의 교육적 역할
과 활동을 알아보고 활성화 방안을 모색하려 한다.
전시를 통한 교육활동과 강의나 강연을 통한 교육활동으로 이루어진 과
학박물관의 교육활동을 선진 외국의 과학박물관을 통하여 조사하였으며
이를 통해 우리 나라의 과학박물관 교육활동의 실태 및 문제점을 살펴보
고 발전방안을 탐구하였다. 외국의 과학박물관의 교육활동을 조사해 본
결과 박물관의 교육부의 교육담당자들에 의해 계획·실시하고 있는 강연,
강의, 실기학습, 야외학습, 탐험여행 등의 활동을 통해 어린이부터 성인에
이르기까지 모든 사람들이 이용할 수 있도록 다양한 학습내용의 프로그
램을 연중 실시하고 있었다. 박물관의 연구부는 중·고등학교, 대학과 연
계하여 전문적인 연구활동을 하거나 교사들을 위한 연수프로그램 등 전
문 교육프로그램을 마련하여 과학박물관이 모든 대중의 교육적 공간으로
이용될 수 있도록 운영되고 있다. 반면 우리 나라의 과학박물관 교육은
주로 중·고등학생들만을 대상으로 제한적으로 실시되고 있어 모든 국민
의 과학화를 위한 교육활동에 부족함이 많이 있음을 알 수 있었다.
과학박물관의 활성화를 위한 방안으로 모든 국민이 참여할 수 있는 다
양한 내용의 교육프로그램이나 행사를 개발하여 평생교육의 장으로서 모
든 사람들이 이용할 수 있도록 보다 능동적인 방법을 모색한다. 이를 위
해 학예연구원과 구별되는 전문 교육자를 배치하고 교육에 관한 기능을
강화하며 적극적인 지원으로 이용객의 입장과 편의를 생각하는 운영 등
이 요구된다.
