단일과 혼합 중금속의 HMBC는 대략 다음과 같은 관계가 조사되었다: HMBC_혼합 = (Sum of HMBC_단일)/2^n n: number of heavy metals.

Acute toxicity test, which was known to be sensitive to heavy metals, was used to determine heavy metal binding capicity(HMBC) of various aquatic environments exposed on sole or mixed heavy metals, and also the fractionation of HMBC was examined in terms of water qualities. HMBCs for Cu, Cd, Zn and Hg in estuary were in the range of 3.3 - 18.8 and that of Cd was 3 - 6 times higher than tested other heavy metals. HMBCs for sole and mixed heavy metals roughly illustrated following relationships : HMBC_mixed = (Sum of HMBC_mole)/2^n n: number of heavy metals. HMBCs of tested 6 aquatic environments were in the range of 2.54 - 39.16, showing distinct distribution according to physicochemical characteristics of aquatic environments. In case of wetland and pond samples with high organics, approximately 72.4 and 45.7% of total HMBC, respectively, was distributed on organic fraction. Also high percentage of HMBC(62%) was distributed on ionic fraction in case of estuary samples with high chloride ion.
