‘일방적 의존’과 ‘상호성’의 경계에서: 동거 경험을 통한 부모-성인자녀 관계의 재조명

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 부모-성인자녀 동거를 성인자녀에 의한 노부모 부양으로만 간주하고 접근하던 기존의 연구 틀과 성인자녀의 부모에 대한 의존과 기생으로만 접근하는 새로운 연구 틀을 통합하여 성인자녀와 부모 간 양자의 맥락에서 이해하는 것이다. 2개 년도에 걸친 본 연구는 한국 가족 내 부모-성인자녀 동거가 ‘일방적 의존’과 ‘상호성’의 맥락에서 어떻게 자리매김 되고 있으며, 이러한 부모-성인자녀 관계가 이후 노부모-중년자녀 관계에서는 어떻게 작용할 지에 대한 관심사를 조명하고자 한다.
이를 위하여, 본 연구에서는 1차년도에는 성인자녀 500명과 부와 모 500명 등 총 1,000명을 대상으로 질문지조사, 2차년도에는 부모와 동거하는 성인자녀와 부, 모 총 50명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였고, 이를 양적, 질적 차원에서 분석하였다.
연구 결과, 부모-성인자녀 관계의 주제에 따라 다양한 양상들이 나타나고 있으며, 전반적으로 볼 때 한국사회에서 동거 경험을 통한 성인자녀와 부모와의 관계는 ‘일방적 의존’보다 ‘상호의존’에 가까운 것으로 결론 내릴 수 있다.
본 연구의 결과는 현재 한국 사회에서의 세대 문제나 부모-성인자녀 관계를 재조명하고 가족과 연관되어 드러나는 불안정성이나 불안의 문제들을 짚어내는 데 필요한 정보를 제공함으로써, 향후 이와 관련된 정책 입안 등을 위한 기초적 자료의 구축에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to integrate the existing research framework, which regards the cohabitation of parents with adult children as the support of old parents, with the new research framework, which regards the cohabitation of parents with adult children as the dependence on old parents, and then to understand parent - adult cohabitation in the context of both adult children and parents. This study, which has been conducted for two years, highlights to identify how the coexistence of parent-adult children in Korean families is positioned in the context of 'overdependence' and 'interdependence', and how such relationships between adult children and parents works in relationships between middle aged children and old parents afterward.
In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey of total 1,000 adults(500 adult children and 500 parents), in the first year, and in-depth interviews with 50 adult children and parents in the second year. Collected data were analyzed in the both of quantative and qualitative dimensions.
