This retrospective study was undertaken to evaluate for the clinical characteristics on the 333 women with ectopic pregnancies who were admitted and treated at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pusan National University Hospital from January 1, 1978 yo June 30, 1988. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Hospital incidence of ectopic pregnancy compared to the delivered cases was 1 in 15 deliveries. 2. Age distribution of cases was showed the highest frequency between 25 and 29 years group:and mean age of cases was 30.9years. 3. According to obstetrical history of cases, 90.7% of cases was revealed pregnancy one or more times, 69.7% of cases was revealed artificial abortion one or more times. 4. According to past history of illness, pelvic inflammatory disease was noticed in 15.3%, laparoscopic tubal sterilization in 12.3%,and previous laparotomy in 14.7% respectively. 19cases of previous ectopic pregnancy(5.7%) were included among cases previous laparotomy. 5. As to chief complaints of cases on admission, lower abdominal pain was noticed in 92.8%, vaginal spotting in 75.4%, nausea and vomiting in 30.3%, dizziness in 11.1% and drowsy and syncope in 7.2%,etc.in order respectively. 6. Pelvic tenderness was the most common finding by pelvic examination, giving 64.0% of all cases, cervical motion tenderness in 57.0%, and palpable adnexal mass in 14.7%. 7. Positive finding of culdocentesis to confirm hemoperitoneum was noticed in 92.2% among 282 cases performed, and positive finding of urinary hCG test was noticed 64.5% among 259cases. 8. Ectopic pregnancies were implanted on the fallopian tube in 98.4%, cervix in 1.2%, and abdomen in 0.4% respectively. Among tubal pregnancy, ampullar in 73.8%, isthmic in 11.3%, interstitial in 8.5% and fimbrial in 6.4% respectively. 9. 50.4% of tubal pregnancies was treated by salpingectomy, 20.1% of tubal pregnancies by salpingectomy and contralateral tubal ligation, and 3.9% of all studied cases was treated by hysterectomy. 10.
