This paper aims to overview the status quo of IT industry and its SWOT analysis, and to analyze the export competitiveness of Korean IT industry with a comparison of United Nations, Japan, and China. This paper provided a statistical review of IT industry data from TRASS, KOSIS, and UN Comtrade Statistics database using indices of IMS, TSI, RCA, and ESI. The occupancy rate of export market in Korean IT industry is more than 5.4%, TSI and RCA, and ESI have competitive advantages in IT industry export. However, the facts that only a part of IT items are being exported and the exports is depending much to China must be improved hereafter. Therefore, to cope with the growing competitiveness of core technologies and components, Korea shall provide innovative measures to diversify items and broaden countries to export. Furthermore, Korea IT industry should reinforce central spare parts and the global specification system, avoid direct competition with USA, Japan, and China through technological innovation system, upgrade industrial structures focusing on high-class technologies.
