In hydrologic fields, GIS enables to extract watershed or stream automatically using DEM(Digital Elevation Model) and to create input parameter of hydrologic modeling program using GIS data and actual measured hydrologic data. There is need to accurately know hydrologic element as source, junction, diversion, interior, outlet, sink within basin when we input parameters being analyzed with GIS into hydrologic modeling program. If we don``t understand the flow direction of stream, manual work is required like the use of DEM or hydrologic data book. This study presents automatic extraction algorithm of hydologic element being usually used to preprocess of hydologic analysis using DEM and stream data. And, AML(Arc Macro Language) is used that user can extract hydrologic element easily within ARC/INFO. Also, this study compares automatic extracted results with manual extracted results and presents problem being occurred during research and advanced method.
