DR콩고의 콜탄(Coltan)생산과 분쟁에 관한 연구 = A Study on Production of Coltan and Conflicts in Democratic Republic of the Congo

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article concentrates on the analysis of production of Coltan, through which is to show the structural transformation and the conflicts in Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC). Coltan(abbreviation of colombite-tantalite, a mixture of two mineral ores) is produced in eastern DRC, in particular, the Kivu region, where have been occurred the conflicts between DRC army, foreign forces, armed groups. While political and strategic objectives were important at the start of the conflict, all anti-government armed groups have turned to revenue-raising activities to finance their costly military campaigns since the Congo War. Their control of coltan deposits and trade routes all have created opportunities for profit-making. Conflicts have weaken state institutions and aggravated the corruption of administration, allowing coltan mining to occur illegally. In order to resolve a correlation between exploitation of coltan mine and conflicts, DRC government must achieve political stability in eastern region and expand the formal economic sectors and reconstruct poor infrastructure.
