This study was performed to compare the perception and consumption of environment-friendly farm products (EP), and opinions of wide use of EP between the parents of children in the schools where EP had been used in their foodservice (Group A) and the schools where EP had never been used (Group B). A questionnaire survey was conducted from June 10 to 17 in 2007, and the subjects were 225 parents (103 in Group A and 122 in Group B). Significantly higher proportions of Group A than Group B disagreed the use of agricultural pesticides and chemical fertilizers even if the price of the food products increased (p<0.05). Major places of purchase were significantly different between the two groups (p<0.001); department store and Nonghyup in Group A and discount store and specialty store in Group B. Preference on the frequency of using EP in foodservice were also significantly different between the two groups (p<0.001). Parents who
answered ‘everyday’ were 57.3% in Group A, and those who answered ‘once a week’ were 57.4% in Group B. In conclusion, Group A perceived EP better and consumed EP more frequently than Group B, suggesting that wide use of EP in the foodservice of the schools where EP had been already used and even the partial use of EP in the foodservice of the schools where EP had never been used are necessary with the support of related organizations.
