The spray characteristics of the direct injection single-hole diesel nozzle with a 2-spring nozzle holder were investigated by using a PDPA(phase Doppler particla analyzer) and a spray image analysis system. The spray penetration, the spray angle, the particle velocity and size, the correlation between diameter and velocity of the droplet with the variation of nozzle hole diameter, bump speed. injection quantity were measured.
The results of this experiment can be summarized as follows. There are significant differences in the spray characteristics of the single-hole diesel nozzle with the variation of the hole size. From the velocity measurements along the sxis of the spray, the first injected droplets near nozzle are immediately overtaken by droplets that follow them. The decrease of nozzle hole size increases the spray penetration and decreases the spray angle. And slso the secondary injection continued after a main injection from the start of injection occurs, and it is confirmed by the axial velocity profiles and needle lift signal.
